Natural fibres

Mohair

Mohair

Mohair is a soft and comfortable woollen fibre made from the long, curly fleece of the Angora goat. Mohair has a beautiful lustre and an elastic quality. It is therefore considered a luxurious natural fibre.

The thinnest mohair is called kid mohair and can only be derived from the first shearing of a young Angora goat.

Fifty-four percent of the world’s mohair is produced in South Africa. Counting Flowers sells unique scarves from kid mohair, handmade by the South African female artisans working with Snug.

Care instructions for mohair

Mohair, like all wool, is a delicate fibre. Do not wash your mohair scarf too often. Leaving it to hang in fresh air can be a good alternative.

If you decide you’d like to wash your scarf, consider the following:

  • Hand wash separately in cool water;
  • Use a drop of very mild soap;
  • Do not leave the scarf soaking;
  • Remove any excess water carefully, do not wring out or twist the scarf;
  • Leave the scarf to dry in a flat position;
  • Avoid direct sunlight when drying the scarf;
  • Do not use a tumble dryer.

Of course, you can also take the scarf to a dry cleaner.

This information does not offer any guarantees. However, we know from experience that if you treat your mohair scarf with care, you will be able to enjoy it for years to come.
